Cook Dinner for Families Staying At Ronald McDonald House!

August 31, 2010

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE HAS JULY-AUGUST OPENINGS FOR INDIVIDUALS, GROUPS INTERESTED IN PREPARING DINNER FOR FAMILIES

Great Team-Building Event or Just a Way to Help Families With Sick Children

Knowing that a home-cooked meal waits for them at the end of the day is a comforting thought for families staying at the Valley’s two Ronald McDonald Houses.  Most of their waking hours are spent at hospitals with their sick or injured children, leaving little time for grocery-store visits or cooking.

There are openings in July and August for individuals and groups interested in sponsoring and serving a meal to the Ronald McDonald House families.

Openings are listed on the RMHC dinner calendar at the website, www.rmhcphoenix.com.

Volunteers provide all food and baking ingredients and use the kitchen facilities at the two houses to prepare the meals.   There are no dietary restrictions and menus do not need to be provided ahead of time, although it is recommended that  meals other than pasta dishes be served.

Volunteers also need to provide plastic utensils, paper products and drinking cups.  Dessert and non-alcoholic beverages are optional.

Leftover food is packaged by volunteers for families unable to make it to the buffet-style dinners.

Volunteers are asked to be prepared to serve meals for 55 at the original Ronald McDonald House, 501 E. Roanoke Ave., and 40 at the House on the Phoenix Children’s Hospital campus.  A volunteer coordinator will email each group several days ahead of the scheduled meal to provide a more accurate number.

Volunteers can choose to stay and enjoy the meals with the families.

A full list of guidelines is posted on the website.

About Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix: Since opening its doors 25 years ago, RMHC has logged more than 30,000 family visits at its two valley locations. The “home-away-from-home” offers a comfortable, welcoming and affordable haven for families who can stay for days, weeks, sometimes months at a time, while their sick or injured children undergo medical treatment at Valley hospitals.  They are asked to pay just $15 a night to stay at a House, but no family is ever turned away because of its inability to pay. The Phoenix Houses can accommodate up to 63 families each night and the organization serves more than 2,100 families a year.  Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix is a non-profit organization supported by individual, corporate and foundation donations.  For more information, visit www.rmhcphoenix.com.
